Quality
There are several different methods of grading the quality of shipping containers. There is no universal grading system at this time because although the containers usually start on cargo ships, they can have many uses even after they are no longer approved for shipping. Here are some helpful guidelines:

New (One Trip)
This condition is as close to new as you can buy in most cases without paying double or triple for a unit manufactured in the US. The unit has made one trip from its point of origin carrying cargo, and is then returned to a distribution point and made available for sale. The vast majority of our rental containers were purchased as One Trip units. They are built to last 30 plus years and are usually the best option if your budget allows.

IICL-5 (Premium)
This condition indicates an International Institute of Container Lessors (iicl.org) condition stamp. While this is a variation of Cargo Worthy, Premium containers are held to a higher standard. Think of these as One Trip containers that may be a few years old but are still in excellent condition.

CW (Cargo Worthy)
In general this means the unit has met the shipping industries’ international standard. The unit is structurally sound and has been inspected by a certified container inspector within the last year.

Wind and Watertight (WWT) or B Grade
Guaranteed wind and watertight, meaning no leaks or holes in the container with fully operational doors and minimal levels of damage or repair costs. These units can be 15 years or more in age, but have held up to inspection and still earn the WWT stamp of approval. While a WWT unit is no longer Cargo Worthy, it can still be repaired to that standard for international shipping use.

As Is (C Grade)
No warrantees, representations, or guarantees — buyer beware. You’ll save hundreds of dollars, but you don’t know if the unit even holds weather or vermin out.

Reconditioned
A reconditioned or refurbished unit can be any of the previous units that has been locally inspected, repaired to WWT condition and applied with a fresh coat of DTM (direct to metal) paint.
